I don't think it's wrong to want to follow the law, really, but when you know the law's wrong you can't hold back from doing something to change it. At least she's a little flexible. That has to count for something.
It's certainly a relief when it's on request from the guards. Other times, however, it's truly just 'Avaline might you look at the wall over there so I can break down the door' or 'Avaline could you please make sure none of the guards patrol this way so I can do a bit of a stab in peace' while she stares at me like she'd truly be doing the world a favor by running me through.
