That's a nice way to look at it. [it's something she'd consider, too. even if someone you love was suffering, knowing they were still partially themselves is still a sense of closure.]
Had it been long at all since you saw her before that?
So not too long, but still some time. [she is in fact getting the sense that perhaps hawke's entire family is tragic, and she frowns softly.] Even getting the chance to say goodbye though...that doesn't make it easier to handle what happens after that.
[so more by necessity than really by choice. tragedy does bring people together, though she's not entirely sure she likes the idea that that's what it took.]
But doesn't that mean then...it's only you now? Do you know where your brother went? [she remembers hawke mentioning to her that he had been upset about the death of their sister, but.]
Well, Ser Snuffles is still here. [ well. for however long dragon age doggies live that is. he's at least 7 or so now ] And Carver is fine. .....Technically. He's been conscripted into the Wardens and their eternal quest against the darkspawn because he was stupid and got himself tainted and- [ URGHS. breathes. and continues more calmly ]
The only way to survive is if a grey warden happens to be nearby and you survive being inducted into their ranks. Fortunately, we were in the right place for it. Unfortunately, everything else related to becoming a grey warden isn't rather conducive to returning to a normal life.
The templars in and out of Kirkwall, the Chantry of Kirkwall, I'm sure some of the Grey Wardens have taken offense, the mages who didn't want things to change, probably some of the mages who did but not like this, the Capital most definitely, all of Orlais, every other bloody person who's got their own opinion on how things should have been handled.....
My thoughts exactly. While I'm perhaps not pleased that I've managed to upend all of their lives, there's truly no one else I would want by my side while we plan out the next move.
[ she sighs a little sadly though ]
I've a feeling we may have to go our separate ways, however, given how it's much easier to hunt a group than individuals or pairs.
[she cannot really say shit when her party is currently made up of 8 people and a cid. but...hum.]
Do you really think they would have stuck with you if they were bothered about the upending? Or that it'll be easy for all of you to agree to split up?
Maker, no. I'm more afraid that if I let them out of my sight I'll simply hear reports about chaos spreading across the land faster than I receive messages from them personally.
Then I think the answer is to find a way to make the group work anyway. Even if it's easier to hunt a group, doesn't that also mean it's easier to defend each other as a group?
[ she loves her people but the fact they're all various levels of chaotic makes her so tired sometimes ]
Leaving some of them together for very long has the exact same problem, however. There are some quests you can only take certain people on after all, and the ones holding down the tent need to get along too, or else you'll just return and half the guards are all suddenly dead and stuffed into the bushes.
[ this sounds like someone who has seen this very thing played out ]
[well this sounds very tiring, actually, never mind. she thinks she understands why hawke is against the idea a little more now.]
Guess it's about finding a way to keep them busy? [considering this for a moment.] But you'd know your group better to figure out how to separate the troublemakers.
Maybe we really should have simply started a knitting club. But then given the lot of them I'm sure someone [ Anders ] would have ended up stabbed with the needles eventually [ thanks Fenris ] and subsequently ending up cheered on [ Isabella ] while the others [ Merril, Varric ] watched and Avaline fails to call order.
...think about it this way, Hawke. At least being here for a little while means you can kind of brainstorm ideas for when you get back? [is that a bright side. is it.]
Sometimes you've just gotta be forceful, even if they don't always get it. [perhaps leaving them in the woods is right!!!
but anyway it is memshare, so that means hawke can be treated to a memory until 16:52. i was going to give you dead mom to match but no it's now about bullying people into doing things for you.]
[ she's not even polite about bursting into obnoxious snickers about cloud suffering ]
Oh maker- that poor bloody bastard.
[ the levels of WELL THAT SURE IS SOMETHING is at record breaking heights of what in the what about everything else but sometimes you've just gotta focus on the important part: making fun of cloud ]
He really doesn't have any luck at all, does he?

Where do you fit into this, Hawke? If you're not a Warden and everything, what are you doing now?

I'm the Champion of Kirkwall. [ ... ] Or I was. Might have to give that up whenever I get back. Can't defend anything if you're on the run.

May the maker bless me with a moment of clarity and figure out a blasted solution that isn't just leaving them all in the woods.

Nope! But don't worry, I pay him well for his work. [hehe.] He's used to doing odd jobs by now, even if they aren't so great.
